Objectified / Objects and Spaces

Maria Louiza Biri

In this project I explored the relationship between objects and spaces. My concept is about how objects are connected to specific environments either interior or exterior and their associations that we make. Marcel Duchamp worked with the concept of Found Objects where by simply choosing the object and repositioning titling, joining, and signing it, it became art. He selected the pieces on the basis of “visual indifference,” and the selections reflect his sense of irony, humor and ambiguity. For the first part of the project I perceived the street furniture as sculptural objects and I combined these with interior objects in order to transform the exterior to interior objects so that their associations are altered. They are my readymade objects so that they have an ironic, humoristic and surrealistic characteristic. For the second part of my project I selected a public interior swimming pool where I created surreal installations of combinations of objects that we wouldn’t expect to see in this environment so that it affects the function of the space and challenge its perception.
